Before we left that morning, our camp neighbor Rev. Thomas V. Pearce took our hands and blessed our bikes and our journeys and sent us on our way!
A special thanks to Pastor Tommy and may God bless you... Happy Retirement! Enjoy your own wonderful new journey!
Day 9 on the other hand was one of the toughest days yet. We battled against a nasty headwind with gusts at 27mph during 40 degree weather, and climb after climb... Yuck! It was a very humbling experience. I was miserable all day. But no matter how bad you feel, you have to get on that bike and put in the miles pushing 75-100lbs. It sucked pretty major.
My spoiled behind desperately wanted some warmth for the night to nurse my knee (after pushing hard for two days). So here I lay in a comfy motel in Jacksonville, NC. Well that lasted 9 days at least right?
Onward and outward to the Outer Banks route (only 20 miles away) where we will meet up with fellow tourists, Sam & Naomi to enjoy some island cycling. Let's hope we end up with a tailwind coming from the South... Here's to wishful thinking!
